Spyro: Season of Ice is a 2001 Game Boy Advance action-adventure developed by Digital Eclipse. The villain Grendor has frozen 100 fairies and scattered them across four icy worlds — and it’s up to Spyro to track them all down. The game uses an isometric perspective, with Spyro using his flame breath and charge attack to clear enemies and unlock new areas. Sparx the dragonfly returns as a health indicator, changing colour as Spyro takes damage.
Season of Ice was the first Spyro title on handheld hardware, and Digital Eclipse managed to keep the open exploration feel of the console originals within the GBA’s limits. Each world has its own theme, enemy types, and hidden collectibles beyond the main fairy rescue count, giving completionists plenty to work through.
