What are Retro Games?

Retro Games, also referred to as Old-School Games, is a collection of games that are classified as old, retro, classic, or vintage. Most of these titles are either ported to work on the web browser or uses a game emulator to work by emulating a classic gaming console.  Modern games that share the characteristics of retro games (i.e. pixel-based graphics, 8-bit music, simple controls, etc.) and those that are heavily inspired by old titles also fall into this video-gaming category. This gaming category sometimes overlaps with Classic Games.

Relive the golden age of arcade gaming and rediscover popular video games across the wide variety of legendary video game systems and consoles. Retro Games is a video gaming genre that covers all retro, classic, and vintage titles from simpler times. One of the most popular gaming consoles of all time was the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console that was released back in October 1985. The system introduced 8-bit graphics and audio that captured the heart of gamers. It was also the console that introduced titles like Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario. Even today, 8-bit video games are still quite popular, and many developers still create games as an homage to the roots of arcade video-games.

Scope of Retro Games

While it depends on the person or party, we consider any games that were released before the year 2000 or those that run on an obsolete console, like Game Boy Advance (GBA), PlayStation 1 (PS1), Nintendo 64 (N64) and consoles before it, to be a Retro Game. In general, any games that run on the 5th Generation gaming console or under belongs to this gaming category. We also consider modern indie games with retro aesthetics and style to be under the same category as a tribute to the games they are based on. Likewise, re-release and ports also fall under Retro Gaming.

Popular Retro Homage

Many indie games are created as tributes to the golden age of arcade gaming. One of our most popular retro games is Super Mario Maker Online. This game is based around the very popular Super Mario Bros. game that was released back in September 1985. This game/tool allows players to create their very own unique levels using the resources available in the game. Jabberwocky GameBoy is a retro-styled role-playing game where the player takes on the role of an adventurous hero named Hiro. The game utilizes Game Boy art-style and graphics. Super Chrono Portal Maker follows the traditional Super Mario gameplay but introduces new game mechanics that make it quite unique.
