Mistfall Hunter Is Live — a Dark-Fantasy Extraction ARPG
Dark fantasy got a jolt on July 31, 2026, as developer Bellring Games and publisher Skystone Games launched their third-person PvPvE title across PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It arrived day one on Xbox Game Pass, with a standalone price of $24.99 ($22.49 during a 10% launch discount through August 12).
Set in the decayed ruins of Weavereach, players become Gyldhunters — revived champions tasked with collecting Gyldenblood to restore the shattered Web of Fate. The design fuses fluid action-RPG melee with high-stakes extraction loops, where death forfeits every scrap of loot you gathered on that run.
Launch-day details
The setting and the extraction loop
The lore imagines a world shattered by a war between pantheons. That divine clash unleashed the Gyldenmist — a toxic corruption that mutates wildlife and dead soldiers into violent “Corroded” abominations. A mysterious figure named Dew revives fallen warriors into Gyldhunters, who venture into fog-choked ruins for Gyldenblood, the life force needed to repair reality.
Once inside a match, the tension climbs fast. To leave with your haul you must hunt an elusive Returner Woodling; slaying it yields a Soul of Return, the catalyst needed to ring the extraction bells scattered across the region. Ringing a bell starts a timed portal ritual — and broadcasts your exact location to every nearby squad, setting up desperate last-second stands. Die before you step through, and everything you gathered that run is gone.
How the extraction genre has changed
The category has moved away from hardcore first-person military sims toward fluid third-person action-RPGs built on stances, spells and class synergy.
For years, extraction titles leaned on the tactical-shooter template set by the likes of Escape from Tarkov — realistic ballistics, fiddly limb-damage math and tedious inventory management. Fantasy fans had few options beyond niche dungeon crawlers with clumsy melee and steep learning curves.
Bellring’s release leans accessible but deep. A third-person camera improves awareness, while combat rewards timing-based parries, dodge rolls, stance swaps and spell combos. Rather than walking to a fixed border point, you actively hunt elite targets to unlock the portal — adding real decisions to every run.
The six starter classes
You pick from six archetypes, each with two mid-combat weapon stances, specialized talents and a clear team role.
Sword-and-shield or heavy bludgeons, forgiving health and simple sweeping attacks — the ideal newcomer pick.
Exiled Rose Knights with a greatsword, a Withering Sigil detonation cycle and a precise counter-parry.
Cloaks, dual daggers and dashes to delete backline casters, then vanishes into the fog before help arrives.
Staves and foci for firestorms, ice chains and arcane bursts — huge clear speed, but fragile armor.
A bow specialist with traps, slowing arrows and quick evasions, harassing rival squads from high ground.
Light shields, healing wells and damage buffs that keep a squad alive through long, grinding fights.
Editions and monetization
The game runs on an upfront model with a day-one Game Pass option, and it firmly avoids pay-to-win or stat-boosting microtransactions.
| Edition | Cost | Included |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Game Pass | Day 1 | Full base game on console and PC |
| Standard | $24.99 | Base game, all classes, seasonal content |
| Deluxe | $39.99 | Exclusive skins, weapon cosmetics, soundtrack |
Every piece of high-tier gear, blueprint and upgrade must be earned through successful expeditions rather than bought. Deluxe adds cosmetic shaders, weapon glow effects, a digital art collection and soundtrack tracks. Subscribers get full cross-play with Steam and PS5, keeping matchmaking pools deep from the very first day.
Early survival tips
A few habits make the difference between a clean escape and losing everything in the fog.
- Upgrade camp first: pour early Gyldenblood into the Alchemist Station for better potions and resist flasks, then the Blacksmith Forge for stronger weapon recipes.
- Master stance swapping: toggle both weapon stances mid-combo — sweep to clear minions, then switch to precise thrusts to break a single guard meter.
- Manage stamina: attacks, dodges, sprints and parries all share one bar. Keep at least 25% in reserve for an emergency roll or you’ll be caught flat-footed.
- Read the audio: the mist kills visibility, so footsteps, armor clinks and growls are your radar. Bait rival squads into trap-laden chokepoints.
Before your first drop
Run this quick checklist before heading into Weavereach:
- Enable cross-play: switch on crossplay matchmaking to cut lobby search times across Steam, Xbox and PS5.
- Tune the audio: set the mix to a headphones or night preset to sharpen footstep direction in the fog.
- Run the trials: practice parry timing and stance swaps with all six classes in the Windrest Camp arena.
- Claim your rewards: check the in-game mailbox for launch and Game Pass perk packs before you deploy.
