Down is Up

Reversal of fortune? Kind of! Down is Up is a game where you have it all the opposite way. When you press down, down should be the direction of whatever you are controlling. Not in this case. It is not limited to the up and down directions either, because the left and right directions have also gone bonkers and are all doing their exact reverse! Honestly, this is downright confusing when you just read it. But why? You might ask. Most of the action platformers today are easy, so now let’s make it complicated by reversing the established control schemes of the game universe. Well actually, reverse axis control schemes (both in X and Y) have been here forever. This means there are actual people that are more than comfortable using the Down is Up control scheme. Are you one of them? The truth is however, the game functions as per normal controls, it is just the perspective that has been skewed with the reversal.

This particular game was created for the Stencyl Jam 2015. And it should be obvious that Down is Up runs on the Stencyl game engine. Down is Up utilizes the flat graphics, which is understandable given that it is made for a competition with time constraints. The game is a bit short, but still, you know what they say, it’s never about the length!
