Now I’ve given it a chance, my opinion has changed – slightly. The theme is as uninspiring as anticipated, but the bonus game and wild symbol make it worth a try. You’re in charge of the free spins, with seven gameplay options. And the random wild multipliers, when combined with the tumble feature, can produce significant payouts.
5 Lions Megaways™ Theme, Graphics and Sound
“Original” is not a word I’d use to describe this Asian-themed slot. It features a typically garish palette of purple and gold – colors that invoke prestige and prosperity in Chinese culture.
A similarly stereotypical soundtrack features a variety of strings, including a zither-like instrument. However, once you start spinning, the music beefs up significantly – initially, it sounds like an adventure video game, before morphing into a cool, 80s-style synth number.
The six-reel slot grid looks strikingly similar to the original, though the frame and icons are more elaborate. One notable change, though, is the incorporation of the Megaways™ engine – this boosts the old 243 ways to win to a possible 117,649.

The wild symbol is an ornate, gold-colored Chinese guardian lion. It only appears on reels 2 to 5, but substitutes for all symbols except the yin-yang.
If the wild helps create a winning combination, a random multiplier is attached to the payout. The possible figures are 40x, 30x, 15x, 10x, 9x, 5x, 3x and 2x – but also 1x, meaning no bonus applies.
